Appendix 24-1 – Explanation of the ball played by mistake
Decision of the FIPJP
1 – Case explained:
Team A plays its first ball. Team B in turn points and thinking it has not taken the point, plays a second ball which takes the point. Being in doubt, both teams measure and after this measurement, it turns out that B had taken the point with its first ball, so team B has 2 points.
2 – Harmonization:
The second ball played by mistake will be valid until the end of the mène. Why is this?
First of all, the rules do not forbid a team to play when it has the point, as long as the measurement has not been made.
Secondly, such an action is typically an error that has already been penalized by the fact that the team in question has been deprived of a ball as a result.
Finally, the cancellation of this second ball played by mistake is inapplicable:
First, if the players do not immediately realize the error [and they continue to throw more boules], how is the referee going to make a decision when other balls have been played and have displaced either of the disputed balls … remembering that, by definition, no measurement has been made on them? Moreover, when a dead ball moves objects, those objects can be put back in place if marked. The problem arises immediately if this second ball, when hit, moves the jack or one or more balls, especially since everyone knows that the markings are rarely accurate to the millimeter. It can even happen that nine balls are played after the second ball in question and that the players only notice that their first played ball had the point!
Consequently, the only valid measurement for the attribution of the points is the one possibly carried out at the end of the mène whatever the order in which the teams played.

Annexe 24-1 – Explication sur la boule jouée par erreur

1 – Cas expliqué :
L’équipe A joue sa première boule. L’équipe B pointe à son tour et pensant ne pas avoir repris le point joue une deuxième boule qui prend le point. Ayant un doute, les deux équipes mesurent et après cette mesure, il s’avère que B avait pris le point de sa première boule, de ce fait l’équipe B possède 2 points.
2 – Harmonisation :
La deuxième boule jouée par erreur sera valable jusqu’à la fin de la mène. Pourquoi ?
D’abord, le règlement n’interdit pas à une équipe de jouer lorsqu’elle a le point, à partir du moment où la mesure n’a pas été effectuée.
Ensuite, une telle action relève typiquement d’une erreur déjà sanctionnée par le fait que l’équipe en cause est, de ce fait, privée d’une boule.
Enfin, l’annulation de cette deuxième boule jouée par erreur est inapplicable :
D’abord, si les joueurs ne se rendent pas de suite compte de l’erreur, comment l’arbitre va-t-il faire pour décider lorsque d’autres boules auront été jouées et auront déplacé l’une ou l’autre des boules contestées alors même que, par définition, aucune mesure n’aura été faite sur elles ?
De plus, lorsqu’une boule nulle déplace des objets, ces derniers peuvent être remis en place si marqués. Le problème se pose de suite si, frappée, cette deuxième boule bouge le but, une ou plusieurs boules, d’autant que chacun sait que les marquages sont rarement précis au millimètre près.
Il peut même arriver que neuf boules soient jouées après la deuxième boule en cause et que les joueurs ne constatent que leur première boule jouée avait eu le point !
En conséquence, la seule mesure qui vaille pour l’attribution des points est celle éventuellement effectuée en fin de mène quel que soit l’ordre dans lequel les équipes aient joué.
